Tennis SA is deeply saddened by the passing of Angus Thomson, a Life Member and one of South Australia’s most enduring contributors to the sport.

Born in 1931, Angus dedicated more than 70 years to tennis in South Australia, leaving an indelible mark across coaching, officiating, and tournament administration.

Angus began his journey as one of South Australia’s leading coaches, sharing his knowledge and passion with generations of players. He went on to serve as a Tournament Director for countless events, long before the formal establishment of Tennis SA, and was widely regarded as a master of draws and scheduling. His natural talent for using Tournament Planner earned him a reputation as a guru in the field.

Transitioning into officiating later in his career, Angus served as a Court Supervisor, Referee, and Officiating Educator for 16 years, continuing to officiate until his retirement in 2020. Remarkably, Angus worked his final event at the age of 88, a testament to his incredible energy, commitment, and love for the game.

A respected colleague and mentor, Angus influenced countless lives through his dedication, professionalism, and warmth.

Tennis SA extends its heartfelt condolences to Angus’ family, friends, and the many people in the tennis community whose lives he touched. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
